You may be planning your summer, but it is February 2 here in Western Ky., and I am trying to explain Groundhog Day to my children, which is SO ridiculous if you really sit down and try to explain it to someone who has no idea what it is.
So I went to CNN to show them video of the groundhog coming out of his hole to make a weather prediction. No such luck. I have decided, after watching the feed on CNN of the doings in PA, that those folks who set this all up must be getting up pretty early in the morning to start drinking before they do this, and that the friggin' groundhog actually has NO CHANCE of seeing anything other than a bunch of drunk men in tuxedos and blaring camera lights all pointed at him. What a crazy ritual! And yes, folks, I've seen the movie, but I'm amazed all over again that these men apparently take this all quite seriously....seriously enough to be standing around in the freezing cold wearing tuxes (and sneakers, in one case) and have built a very elaborate "hole" for the groundhog to be dragged out of.
