poultry processing plant

can somebody explain gray chicken membranes to me? saw a chicken with a gray membrane around the meat near the tail. couldn't find any online resource divulging the source of said grayness. wtf. threw the chicken away. wasteful, but probably safe.

Perhaps it's the ass-gland?

I have a cat with a bad ass-gland.

I've cleaned and cooked a lot of chickens in my day and I've never seen anything gray, much less anything that remotely made me think it was part of the chicken's ass.

MY cat has a bad ass gas. We think she gets too much fiber in her healthy, expensive cat food.

not an ass gland. i consulted the esteemed butcher at my workplace and he had seen no such grayness in his tenure as chicken master. he suggested that it got bruised during processing, but i'm one for more disgusting medical/agribusiness explanations.

this weren't no fancy chicken, neither, so no one can blame the organics. this was purchased at king sooper and boasted that it was 'natural'. as in, it's a chicken, and chickens occur naturally. what they feed them and how they house them is the unnatural part that likely produced gray chicken butt.
